YEAR 5 (1994) OF THUNDER ON THE HILL, KINSER TAKES FIRST THUNDER WoO WIN, DEWEASE, COVERDALE AND DUNSTAN SHARE TRIPLE HEADER, BILL BRIAN JR WINS KING OF THE HILL WITH LAST LAP PASS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA . . . . . . “No excuses, we just got beat,” said Andy Hillenburg after Steve Kinser made a last lap pass to win the 30 lap World of Outlaw event at Thunder on the Hill/Grandview Speedway Tuesday night, May 31, 1994. This was the first Thunder event of 1994 as the CRA event in early May was cancelled due to rain. The WoO event was a thrill with Kinser pleasing the crowd with a last lap move.
Andy Hillenburg followed Kinser to the checker flag with Mark Kinser, Stevie Smith and Fred Rahmer making up the top five. Filing out the complete finish was Dave Blaney, Jac Haudenschild, Billy Pauch, Greg Hodnett, Bill Brian Jr., Jeff Swindell, Joe Gaerte, Garry, Brazier, Alan Cole, Dan Dietrich, Jeff Shepard, Sid Blandford, Billy Ellis, Brian Montieth, Kenny Jacobs, Glenn Fitzcharles, Dave Hahn, Bruce Thompson, Steve Beitler, Sammy Swindell.
Tuesday night, July 19, 1994 ….410 Sprints, URC Sprints & Legend cars on the program. Thunder on the Hill returned to Grandview and Lance Dewease earned $5,300 for the win beating a field of 42 sprint cars. Dewease had a four second lead over Todd Shaffer at the drop of the checker flag on lap 35, in a race that only had one caution. The finish included Don Kreitz in third followed by Billy Pauch, Bill Brian Jr., Fred Rahmer, Cris Eash, Todd Gracey, Keith Kauffman, Billy Ellis, Dave McGough, Rick hench, Alan Cole, Bobby Weaver, Jesse Wentz, Trevor Utt, Cliff Brian, Tony Greener, Jon Eldreth, Todd Rittenhouse, Lenny Thompson, Dave Hahn, Sam Ross, Kramer Williamson.
Greg Coverdale won the 25 lap sprint feature, taking the lead from Kramer Williamson with just five laps to go. Ronnie Dunstan won the Legend Car feature, taking the lead from Del George with one lap to go.
Tuesday night, August 23, 1994 the stage was set for the 50 lap King of the Hill. Bill Brian Jr took the win with a last lap pass. Brian led the first 42 laps of the feature then got passed by Todd Gracey who finished second in this event last year. Lapped cars were a handful and Gracey got hung up going into turn one lap 50. Brian took advantage and used the outside lane to make the winning pass. Brian was the winner over Todd Gracey, Don Kreitz, Alan Cole and Cris Eash.
Making up the complete finish was Lance Dewease, Steve Smith, Dan Dietrich, Jesse Wentz, Joey Kuhn, Todd Shaffer, Joey Borich, Trevor Utt, Todd Rittenhouse, Glenn Fitzcharles, Dave Hahn, Denny Soltis, Fred Rahmer, Cliff Brian, Billy Pauch, Bob Bennett, Bobb Weaver, Sam Ross Jon Eldreth.
Walt Stearly won the 15 lap Mini-Sprint feature.
